    Default 8100 - Faulty registration???

    Hello all,

    We have an 8100 which is kind of producing the faulty registration error that is on the main site, but rather than the printed page being moved over to the left (leaving a large space on the right side of the page). the print is all the way over to the right (thus leaving massive space on the left.)

    We first suspected roller issues, so replaced them all, no success. We have tested printing from each of the trays (2,3,4) and from the paper feed on the right side of the printer, all of them do the same, so I believe it is not the rollers.

    Using the halfway test, and using the printers self test (configuration print), it's as if the toner unit isn't 'seeing' the page until the page is halfway through, and then the toner unit starts to print, thus missing the first third of page and leaving it blank.

    Unfortunatly, there are no more toner units in our basement, and so am ordering one in, purely for testing purposes.

    I'm wondering if it might be the transfer roller as the paper passes over that before hitting the toner unit.

    Anyone have any ideas? I'm on the verge of taking a hammer to it!

    Did you try to print from Tray 1? If there are timing issues from the main paper trays then tray 1 might work.

    Sometimes a good bath of compressed air will fix a problem like this.

    Anything interesting in the Event Log? Check the codes with Google.

    Have tested manual feed (tray 1?), tray 2, 3 and 4, all individually, which is what makes me think it's not the rollers.

    I'll go on a hunt for compressed air, and give the event log a try.

    Can't find the event log for the printer itself, but the event log on the machine that is sending the prints shows no errors or alerts.

    Talyn, what is the page count? The PIU is probably worn, so the internal rollers on it's upper end are shot. What is happening, is that the paper is riding over because of worn rollers.
    The registration assy. is not correcting it, so may be worn out too.
    Rarely a scanner, but could be. The above problems cause a timeing issue that may affect the scanner.

    This is a fairly common problem -- generally the problem lies in either the Paper Input Unit (a clutch can fail on this unit) or the registration assembly...

    if you want to solve the problem in one shot, replace both of these assemblies ... or you can pick one and try it first, then try the second assembly if replacing the first doesn't help ...

    I just had the exact same problem on an 8150. I verified that it wasn't a software issue by printing a config page. It was the registation assembly.
