Default LJ5200DTN won't finish power up sequence...

New problem... I've got an LJ 5200dtn that the user says all he did was change out the toner. Now when you turn the printer on, the memory counts up, and the HP logo appears on the LCD, and the three LED flash in sequence but that is all that happens. I tried doing a cold reset, but I'm not sure if that did anything or not because there is no difference on the printer display. I've tried unpluging power and network and letting the printer set for 30 minutes. I also tried putting the original toner back in. Nothing changes. The memory counts up, the HP logo appears on the printer LCD screen, the LEDs continuously flash in sequence (left to right), and that's all! Suggestion?

No, redcow, it is more likely a firmware issue. You can't flash it if it does not get to ready, so you will have to replace it.

I've never even cracked open a 5200 yet. Is the ROM on a DIMM? I could try it in another 5200. I don't want to do too much on this printer, we've only had it for five months. I guess I need to get online and take another test...

has it got built in network card? or jetdirect card installed?

network card failure can cause this problem.

Default LJ5200DTN won't finish power up

I just got back from the printer.
While I was up there I opend it up and saw that the formatter board is on the right side of the printer. I also noticed that the network cable was plugged into the formatter board and that an aditional 512 megs of RAM had been installed. So I removed the RAM and powered the printer back up. No change. Then I installed a 620n JetDirect card with and without the RAM. No change. When you turn the printer on there is about 5 to 6 seconds of mechanic activity, but this stops before the memory is finished counting up (even without the additional 512 megs).

My guess is the problem is with faulty RAM ...

however, the machine probably needs at least some RAM to actually boot up, so when you pulled the RAM and powered the machine on, it still couldn't boot up because it didn't have enough RAM... do you have some extra RAM (doesn't have to be 512MB) you could swap in?

I wanted to let you all know that I replaced the formatter board, poped the same 512 RAM back, and powered the printer up just fine. Thanks redcow and to everyone else for your help.
