Thread: HP Laserjet 3035xs - 49.FF92 error

    Question HP Laserjet 3035xs - 49.FF92 error

    Hi guys,

I've got one of these printers here at our office that as soon as the unit finishes powering up goes to the above error code - best I can find online is that its likely the formatter board. I used to be an HP Certified tech but my creds on the website no longer work (its been at least 3 years) so I can't verify anything. Any ideas/input?

Since this occurs during Power On Self Test (POST) the problem is likely inside the printer. Bad print jobs and communications problems can cause this same error as well but this does not seem to be your issue. I did a Google search on HP 3055 + 49.FF92 and got an HP page. For an internal error they suggested a memory problem. Try reseating the memory if it has a DIMM? Does this thing have an imbedded NIC? If it has a plugged in NIC try removing it. If the NIC is putting a constant bit out on the buss it will hang up the POST process. Other than reseating everything I don't have anything to offer.

This is a "cousin" printer to the P3005 which is notorious for formatter board failure. Since it's happening at boot sequence, rather than when a job is being sent, I would do a Cold Reset, try an NVRAM Reset, and finally change the formatte rbaord.

Thanks for the suggestions Big Al - the NIC is embedded - I've got the right cover off and while I've found the hard drive I can't find any memory DIMMs - anyone with a manual know if this thing even has DIMMs and if so how I can get at them to reseat?

I've tried a few of the "standard" NVRAM resets that I've found on the web for other models (mostly 2000 series) but I'd like to be sure I've got the sequence right - anyone know what it is in particular for the 3035xs?

Hey guys, just a bit of an update. I tried the old pressing and holding START to try and get into some kind of maintenance mode and nothing happened. I did get a different error though - "80.0075 - Embedded Jetdirect Error - turn the printer off and on again."

Of course after doing that I'm back to my original error.

After reading your posts, it certainly sounds like you will probably need to replace the formatter board.

Regarding the DIMM chip: I haven't seen this machine , only it's cousin, which does have a DIMM chip. The Service Manual says there is 1 DIMM slot. Reseating the DIMM won't help you though unless you suspect someone else took the panel off and messed around with or removed the chip. If it's there it will be located on the right side of the printer, pull the side panel off and open up the formatter to access the memory slot. Usually there is a white outline which surrounds the slot which holds the firmware chip.

Here's how to do an NVRAM reset, along with the warning From the Service Manual about what it does: "Initializing the NVRAM resets the event log, the page counts, and embedded
EIO and resets service menu values to factory defaults. NVRAM initialization does not reset
the model number, serial number, service ID (born-on date), usage data, or the error log.
Use the service menu to restore the serial number and page counts. Also reconfigure any
computers that print to this device so that the computers can recognize the device. Initialize
the NVRAM only when absolutely necessary. In most situations, use a cold reset rather than
a NVRAM initialization to reset device settings and retain the values in the service menu."

    To perform NVRAM reset:
    1. Turn off the device.
    2. Turn on the device.
    3. When the control-panel display shows that the device has begun to count the memory, press and
    hold the 9 key.
    4. When the LED lights turn on, release the 9 key.
    5. Press the 3 key, and then press the Start key.
    6. Use the 3 and 9 keys to scroll through the options (skip disk-load, NVRAM init, manufacturing, and
skip calibration) and then press the 6 key to select the option you want.
The device continues the power-on sequence.

Yup, still no go. Can anyone get a part# for me of the formatter board? It doesn't appear as though its that easy to find online.

    Q7819-60101.

But before you spend money, upgrade the firmware.
