In trying to get a jammed sheet of paper from tray 2, I pulled the printer guide (RB1-2131) out with the sheet of paper. The pins on the end had broken off. A replacement for it has not been easy to find at a reasonable price. Since this happened tray 1 on manual feed also doesn't work. I get a paper jam error message. My question is shouldn't tray 1 work even though tray 2 isn't working?

I am curious where you got that part number and description of the part. I find nothing in the manual for the description nor part number. can you attach a photo of the part in question?

Yes, that guide doesn't interfere with Tray 1 so there are 2 separate issues going on... If you can't see anything obvious, best bet is to replace the paper input unit (also called paper feed assembly). That will include the broken guide as well as paper pickup assemblies for both Trays 1 & 2. They aren't too difficult to replace, probably 30 minutes or so if it is your first time installing it.
