I did power it down before I moved it. This is the issue that has been going on with this printer. You can power it down and then power it back up and it may or may not print. I can power it down move it and when I power it up again it may or may not print. It is almost as if a sensor is acting up and not allowing it to feed paper.
Any ideas?
When it fails, what is the status of the front panel lights?
Get the secondary code......press GO and JOB cancel simultaneously, or at the same time, (what ever is easier), and look at the lights now. Report back with that info.
When it fails, the ready, go and problem (amber) lights are on steady.
I have to power it down and then up again for anything to happen.
SO I powered it down, and then powered it back up and hit the two buttons for the Self test/Configuration, and it started up like it was going to print, went through the cycle for about 10-15 secs, no sound of paper even being tried to be picked up, then all three lights came on steady again. Nothing came out and of course no paper jam.
When the three lights are on steady do the secondary code.
I didn't mention anything about power cycling it.
I tried. When the print failed, and all three lights where on simultaneously, I pushed on the two buttons the GO and the small button. But nothing happens. Nothing can be done until you recycle it. All three lights stay on until it is powered off then on again.
I hate the error lights on these machines, they can be a pain to figure out.
IF you have all three lights solid on (none off or none blinking)its a fatal error. To see the secondary error, press and hold job cancel and go at the SAME time. If the 3 lights stay on, then its either:
General Fatal Error
-Remove all accesories (opt feeder, memory DIMM, network card). Turn on the printer. Does the problem go away? IF not, replace:
-formatter - problem remains, replace:
-engine controller -problem remains, replace:
-power supply
or
Formatter internal RAM/ROM Error
-formatter
IF one or more of the lights go out when you check for a secondary error, let us know, because that would be something else.
when the three lights were solid, I pushed the two buttons and the "Go" button light goes out while the other two stay solid until you take your fingers off the button then all three stay solidly lit.
That is a laser scanner/scanner motor error ... this series is fairly notorious for laser scanner failure... you'll need to replace the scanner.
Is this an expensive part? Do you know if Printer Techs carries these Laser Scanners? Is it a difficult piece to replace? I need to give a customer the news and a price.

If you are comfortable with assembly/disassembly work, this is not a very difficult piece to install ... you must pull off the cover panels, and then remove a few screws and unplug a couple of wires to free the laser scanner...then the device just pops out, the new one goes in its place, you replug the wires, reattach the screws ... we can send basic instructions with a purchase.
