5Si smuging

I have a old 5si that has been serviceable up to now. Along what would be the left edge of a landscape print or the bottom edge of a potrait print. not dealt with a 5si before so any help would be apperciated?

Does the smudge go the direction of the paper(i.e. top to bottom) or across the page?
If it runs top to bottm, check the edge of the fuser also try the lifting the cover trick while printing. Remove the toner and look at the paper. If the smudge is present before the paper gets to the fuser its probably the toner cartridge.
