I have:
-a Mac running OS X 10.4
-a PC running Windows 2000
connected together by a LinkSys Wireless-B Broadband Router.

I just rescued an HP LaserJet 5n from a landfill retirement, and am trying to hook it up to this network.
So far I've:
- downloaded & installed the HP driver for this legacy printer onto the Mac.
- understand I have to adjust the printer's MIO menu, but I don't know to what, and I don't understand what some of its details are.

Any help anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated! And thank you all so much for this service! Both I and the hairs on my head that would've been pulled out thank you!!!

You need a postscript simm in the Laserjet 5 for the Mac to print to it, although I have heard of PCL emulation on OS X but I don't know anything about where to find it. Basically you need to enter an IP address and a subnet mask on the JetDirect card. Hint: make sure BootP=NO or else you won't be able to enter a static IP.

most hp printer user manuals are available FREE from hp website. www.hp.co.uk.
they may help to understand some of the processes of the printer

Yes, but only for the current model lineup. If you need something for an older printer, you're SOL!
