mystery of the missing colors and "align cartridge" error

I have an hp officejet v40

symptoms:
- "press enter to align cartridges" keeps reappearing...even after going through the alignment process.

- the colors cyan and yellow are missing... even after replacing with new ink cartridges.

i can still print in black. and any color pictures i print are in red.



i've tried cleaning the print cartridges, restarting my computer, restarting the printer, going through with the alignment process, ... but nothing seems to work.

any suggestions would be much appreciated

I'm having just about the same problem with my HP2210 but different colors!

Ok,,,this is an old unit, end of life and all that. Beating a dead horse! If you have had 2-3 yrs out of this unit you got your monys worth!
The cost of a repair on this is moot: You just cant get good parts for a lot of these older units. Move up! HP has lots of nice MFP's
