5P printing repetitive horizontal black bars

Hi: My old faithful Laserjet 5P has suddenly started printing thick black repetitive horizontal bars on every page on top of the expected text which looks fine. The bars are about a quarter inch wide and come in pairs about half inch apart and these pairs then repeat every three inches across the page. The refurbished toner cartridge is fairly new and printed just fine until now. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks

The first thing to try would be another cartridge.These can only be rebuilt so many times before internal parts wear out.On the plus side,most reputable remanufacturers will replace bad cartridges for free.If another cartridge does exactly the same thing then you probably need a new laser/scanner unit.I'd say that there is a 90+% chance that you just got a bad cartridge.Good luck.
