HP 4500 Duplexer Not Being Recognized

I just installed a duplexer unit and a 500 sheet extra capacity bin on an HP Laserjet 4500. I followed the instructions, which is very straigt forward. It recognizes the 500 sheet bin but not the duplexer.

However, when I printed the configuration menu, it is showing that the 500 sheet paper tray (Tray 3) is installed but duplexer is not installed and not being recognize by the printer. The interesting part is that if I open the duplexer drawer on the front, the LCD panel of the printer displays the following message: "Close Front Duplex Drawer."

I went to my Windows XP PC and changed the printer driver to indicate that Tray 3 and duplexer unit are installed. I was able to print using Tray 3 as the source but have not been able to print in duplex mode.

This is the second duplexer I bought and I encountered the same problem Initially, I thought the first duplexer has problems so I bought another one only to encounter the same problem.

Any suggestions or support is much appreciated.

Sounds like you should reinstall the duplexer, and if that doesnt work then havent pluged the duplexer power in you gotta plug the duplexer into the power too.

Plug the power into the duplexer first from the wall, then plug the power cord from the duplexer into the printer, try that and see if it works.

You must install the duplexer properly or it wont work.

Im sure that you have it plugged in correctly, but sometimes these unit have a glitch in the connectors. If you can, slightly lift the entire stack, and bang it down. [Just a little now..} It might seat the connector a little better.
Scroll through the menu, and make sure the duplexer is set to on. XP is just plain weird, and you should always check for it in the driver when you print.

Do a configuration page under infomation menu and see if it regconize the duplexer and also do a menu page to check if there is any duplex options too.
