I've ordered a new firmware dimm for the 8000. How do I go about installing it. It seems its just simple swap, but I've read that theres more to it after that. Anybody familiar with procedure to follow in upgrading/replacing old firmware dimm's?

When you get the DIMM installed, print a config page to verfy its the latest FW version MB4.62 which is the latest release available.
This is a relatively simple process. Follow these steps and you'll be fine:
1) Power off printer
2) Unscrew formatter from back left side of printer (the metal plate where the parallel/network cables are plugged in)
3) Pull the formatter straight out
4) Remove old DIMM & put in new one.
5) Replace formatter, tighten screws, reconnect any cables if you unplugged them & turn on printer.
The following document has some images half way down the page that show formatter removal & DIMM replacement which may be a visual help: HP DOC bpl11845 (http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&taskId=110&prodSeriesId=25471&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=25471&objectID=bpl11845)
