I have an HP 8550 DN Color Laser Jet Printer with the three bay paper feeder with two problems.
One, the duplexer jams with great regularity. I have purchased two duplexers; and they do not fit.
Secondly, the print quality is bad; the printing processe leaves a lot of toner on each page. In other HP printers, there is a felt covered stick that wipes the drum to remove excess toner; but I can not find one in this printer. I do not know what I should change next; any ideas.
Thanks.

Print quality first: Empty toner waste tray!
Consumables page: if any below 20%-Replace
Cleaning roller: RG5-3975 You will also need the ICL Kit. You must be an ASP\Technician to order this part. Instructions included.
These units are notoriously dirty! Maintenence is a must!
Duplexer unit:C4782-60501
Check HP Partsurfer for any changes in part #s.

If you are still having jams, print an event log & post the details of the error codes.
If you are still having print defects, is it bad on every page including config pages? Is it colour specific?
You can perform a test to see if your print quality is good on the transfer drum before it hits the page. When the printer calibrates the carousel rotates and makes a whirring like noise as each colour comes into place. It makes the same noise when you print a config page.
Print 1 config page & listen to the noises, you will hear 4 noises. The first 3 will be the colours and will be heard in formation, the 4th is the black and hapens quicker. Once you have identified the noises print another config page & perform the test, after you hear that fourth noise, open the front door to stop the process.
Unlock the transfer drum, open the right door & remove it to examine the print quality. You should have all 3 colours on here and the black will still be on the image drum. If the quality on the transfer drum is fine, it may relate to your transfer belt or the cleaning process, or of course a full waste tray.
If the image is degraded on the transfer drum then you are looking at initial transfer problems or possibly defective toner cartridges.
Refer to the following document and see if your defect is listed to see what may be causing it: HP DOC bpl07750 (http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=bpl07750)
