Hi,

I've just been handed a LaserJet 5 at my office as a hand me down and I'm having some problems with it. The printer was shelved 3 years ago as it was said not to work, in fact the previous user had come to the conclusion the printer couldn't operate with white paper and had been using cream. Being someone who likes a challenge and not letting things go to waste I've attempted to ressurect it. I've done some reading about and I think I've diagnosed the problem as the exit rollers are worn out. I am just looking for some clarification and confirmation.

The Printer seems to be operating correctly (on the most part) with cheap plain paper, but it's having problems with the letter headed we use (Which is thicker). The letter headed dives under the bottom set of plastic spring loaded rollers at the paper exit and the Printer Jams. The back section of the sheet becomes corrigated.

What I am not sure about is if this is a roller issue or if the letter headed is in fact too thick for this printer. We use this paper in countless (well over 8000 members of staff who use it) other laser printers here without any problems. But the fact this printer had already been shelved due to paper feeding issues leads me to conclude its probably is a roller problem.

My boss has said I can keep it if won't print on letter headed...

Thanks

Tim

There are two roller shafts that should be replaced. Remove the fuser, top cover, and delivery assy. Pop off the black guide on top,
c-clip holds the rollers in. Also check the white roller that is driven by the fuser for breaks.

the exit assembly is defective(output assembly) try cleaning the rollers if that does't work replace the output assembly
