Hello. I have an HP LaserJet 4000N with one paper tray. My remote IT guy sent me a used duplexer, part no. C4123A with no documentation. I have the manual for the printer itself, but it does not contain instructions for this option.
I need instructions to physically install the unit. I also need to determine if the driver I have now will work with the duplexer.
Thank you.

Installing a Duplex unit in a 4000 is simple, you just remove the cover that's over the back end of the paper tray and remove the two bits of plastic that cover the screws of the fuser (they've got an arrow on them).
When that is done you can slide the duplexer in.
You will need another power cord, the socket that goes into the printer must be at a 90 degrees angle otherwise the duplexer won't go in all the way.

Hi, Brian,
Maybe you can help me again. The duplexer is installed, pushed in completely, and I've got a new right angle power cord.
Do I need another printer driver or can I print duplex using the current setup? If so, what do I need to do. I tried a few things, and nothing has worked so far.
Thanks.
Kathy

Hi Kathy,
You do not need another driver (although it wouldn't do any harm to use the newest driver)
You have to 'tell' the driver that a duplex unit is installed, depending on the version of the driver you should find a tab with advanced options somewhere, in some versions you can find a picture of the printer and you have to click on the duplex option, in older versions you have to find a field with the configuration and make the duplex unit known there.
As I've got dutch software I can't tell you the exact names of the tabs and fields you have to use.
Good luck,
Brian
