View Full Version : Hp Lj 4100n ******** Error

What would cause the printer not to initialize? When I turn the printer on the display counts Memory, the fan and motors run for a while. Then the display only shows"*******". No error codes. I have tried a cold reboot with the same result. Do I have to replace the motherboard or is this a firmware issue?
Any help would be appreciated.

Is there a JetDirect card installed? If so, try removing it and powering it up. If it comes up ready, the card is bad!

David was thinking along the same line as me, I've seen a lot of 4100's with faulty jetdirect cards giving this type of error but if it's not the jetdirect card it could be the memory, I would take out any extra memory first and take out all options that are not needed for the printer to start up.
If all this fails it could indeed be the firmware or the formatter.
