I'm working on an HP lj 4050 that is complaining while printing, sounds like it's moaning. Sometimes it fails to pick-up giving a 13.1 50 error. I was thinking it's probably needing a maintenance kit but I've heard about a clutch? that may need replacing? Any advice? Thanx

First make sure the feed and separation rollers (RF5-1885) aren't worn, if those are fine you might need to replace the separation roller clutch (RB1-8974).
Sometimes banging the clutch hard will help or opening it up and removing part of the spring, but I've always got a few on me so I replace them.

Thanks Brian,

I appreciate the advice and part numbers.

Remove the clutch from tray. Press down on table with longer end of clutch will seperate. remove the magnet and pitch off some of the filings. tap the core piece on table to get loose filings. reinstall and install the two new RF5-1885's
