does generic ink ruin a desktop printer??

If you use generic ink in a desktop printer will it wreck the printer?

Or is this just a line to get you to buy genuine products only?

If the heads are built into the printer (like Epsons), then yes. On machines like Brother or Canon where the heads are replacable, the cost of the heads is too high to risk using generic ink. I've had to scrap dozens of these over the years because of damage caused by generic, third party ink. With HPs and Lexmarks, the head is part of the ink cartridge so you have nothing to loose other than damage due to ink spillage. In short, use original ink as it's formulated by the manufacturer for your printer. Alot of generics use the same ink for multiple machines. Then again, most ink jet printers are throw away commodities today.
