HPLJ4500 54.2 error

HPLJ 4500
PROBLEM: 54.2 error before initialization. Abour half the time upon starting
it will go through initialization normally. When printing an engine test all
3 colors print ok but black is absent. When printing a config page the first
sheet prints with all 3 colors and the second sheet prints correctly with all
colors and black. When printing a menu map - blank paper only.
FIXES I TRIED: Installed new parts as follows: carousel drive, developer pcb,
controller board, paper feed pcb. Swapped out from a good printer as follows:
transfer kit, transfer drawer, drum, fuser, formatter. All this but above problem persists. Removed carousel and inspected it seems ok. Removed HV power and carousel drive for testing. Will have results Mon. Any ideas appreciated. Bill rtprslaser@yahoo.com

Howdy,
Do all three fans start up? The Drum drawer fan must be running. Replace it, and then the cable if needed, or else the DC cont. is at fault. I do this every day as I have a lot of 4550's! RG5-5152-Drum drawer cover.
If this is not the case, the 54.2 is a rotary drive error. Check to see if anything is blocking the carousel, then replace RG5-5209-Rotary drive

I had a client with a very similar issue. Carosel drive assembly was needed.

if the drive assembly is not moving freely the carts may not be getting high voltage when needed for the development process.
