It is not really a grinding sound, more like EEEEHHHHH..., anyone have any ideas, the formatter maybe? Thanks for any help!

My guess is the noise is probably coming from a faulty toner cartridge , that's the most common issue. If replacing the toner cartridge doesn't help, it could possibly be the laser scanner but it's not common to fail on this model (but on other models the motor / bearings in the laser scanner can get loud with age.)
