The HP LaserJet 4 has recently begun squealing when printing. The print quality is good, just an annoying, rather loud squeal. It also prints a mostly blank page with an "M" or "1M" in the upper left corner before it prints the correct page. I've had this printer for 25 years with virtually no problems, printing about 200 pages per week. Can the printer be repaired or is it time for a new one? Thanks for your help.

The squealing noise is usually a toner cartridge. Replacing the toner should make that issue go away. http://www.printertechs.com/shop/92298a-hp-laserjet-4-4plus-5-compatible-toner-cartridge-value

The page with the letters "M" or "1M" is a page generated by your computer driver, you can try installing a different driver if you like, or live with it. The PostScript driver is the most common/preferred.
