I had a customer complaining that tray 2 would not work unless he had the cassette full of paper.

I replaced the cassette roller and paper pad in the tray.

Now I am getting an error 12.30 Fuser Jam everytime I print from tray 2, and after clearing the fuser, it gives me a front jam immediately. It looks like its picking up multiple pages.

Also if I just leave one page in tray 2, and ask it to print the error log, it works fine.

Printing from tray 1 works fine.

I have monitored the output of the paper path sensors and they all seem to be flipping on and off at different times during print so I think the paper path sensors are ok, I would do a manual path sensor test but I have no idea where these path sensors are that everyone is talking about.

Printer says it has about 69000 jobs, and the fuser has never been replaced.

Any help is much appreciated, thanks!

Try opening and closing tray 2 multiple times, and observe the behavior of the little "paper level indicator" located on the front of tray 2. That indicator should "pop up" whenever you close the tray, indicating that the metal plate which holds the paper gets released whenever the tray shuts. Sometimes the mechanism which activates the release of the metal support plate doesn't work. If so, pull the cassette tray out and look at the bottom of the tray, you will see a little switch that is supposed to get activated whenever you close the tray. Sometimes the tray needs replacing; or sometime the metal frame at the bottom of the printer which holds the actuator needs to be "reflexed" so it properly touches the switch on the tray.

it could be the feed assembly which also handles part of the duplexing process. I had the same issue with a customers machine... even took the feed assembly apart and cleaned all the internal sensors and rollers... worked ok for a few prints.. then went back to the same issue. I replaced the feed section and they haven't had an issue for at least six months. the P/N RMI-2774-000CN it is kind of a booger to get it in tho.
