HP Laserjet 2300L prints dark streaks on page

My HP Laserjet 2300L prints dark streaks horizontally on the page at 1.5" intervals, mostly on the part of the page within and below the printed area. On some of the streaks offset of the text above can be read. How can this be fixed? Thanks.
