View Full Version : HPLJ 4015 Missing cartridge

This printer posts up to and including message " genuine HP cartridge installed", then stops with "install black cartridge"!! I have replaced DC controller (twice)cartridge sensor, formatter,fuser..Help!!

Previous posts here and on the Internet as well seem to point to the contacts in the printer that mate with the cartridge. If one of these is bent or contaminated with toner it can give you this error. Clean the contacts carefully and try it again. If possible look closely at a sister printer that is working. The High Voltage power supply charges up a connector on the cartridge and checks for a small current flow to ground. This proves the the cartridge is installed and it is safe to power up the laser. If one of these contacts is pushed down, bent out of shape or dirty you will get this problem. Please do let us know what you find. Worst case is to replace the power supply, but you may have done that already.

I assume you've tried an alternate toner cartridge? And if you're using aftermarket cartridges, switch brands.

It was the power supply that was at fault
