Can anyone help me out with a problem I am unable to fix? I have this HP Laserjet 4015dn printer that gives me an 60.02 error. the problem is that when tray 2 lifts to the right height, it continues to lift and causes a grinding, popping sound. It is like it doesn't stop lifting until the motors stop. The error message stays on the display panel screen. The spring on the motor and gear housing is NOT broken either. Has anyone had this problem and fixed it.

If the tray did not lift at all then it might be the motor. Since the motor lifts until the feedroller cannot turn it must be the board that drives it or the sensor that tells it the paper is high enough.

Thanks Al. The motor does lift the tray. Do you know where the sensor is located that tells the motor that the tray is lifted to the proper height? Maybe that sensor could be stuck. And if it is not the sensor, do you know where the board is located to operate the motor mechanism? Can swap parts from another like printer if I need to? Thanks

Possibly an easy fix ... if you look at the bottom of the printer you will find a metal support plate which supports the paper tray when it is installed. When that support plate gets bent it can cause this continuous lifting problem. Remove the paper tray from the printer and inspect that support plate, see if it is bent. If so, straighten it.
