The problem I am having with this customers printer is intermittent. Sometimes the color quality is fine, other times it has the appearance at the top of the page like the ETB roller smudge if there is such a thing. I am not well versed on color printers. Any suggestions? Changed the cartridges, fuser looks good, I am thinking about changing the ETB. Thanks Paul

Sometimes these problems are caused by toner contamination. Remove the toner cartridges and the transfer belt and give everything a good bath with canned air. Let us know the page counts. Are you using HP toner or refilled cartridges?

Thanks for the reply. I work for a major hospital and they use rebrand toner. Since I went to work for them I have noticed a good many service calls for the cartridges acting up. So you don't think it is the ETB then?
Thanks Paul

I have seen quite a few transfer belts that were seriously damaged by people dropping toner cartridges on them but they still worked fine and others that were very worn but also worked fine. The image does not go onto the belt. The belt just transfers a static charge to the paper so it can attract the toner off the image rollers. Try printing a block of just one color and see if you can narrow it down to one color. Clean all the contacts that mate with the toner cartridges with compressed gas. Check the contacts on the toner cartridges for corrosion or contamination. Again, what are the page counts? You could also swap the fuser with one known to be good. Check this fuser for contamination. Check the settings on the paper tray. If the settings are too tight or too loose you can have intermittent problems. If the page counts are very high you may need a maintence kit of rollers? Check the appearance of the paper, if it is too shiny or looks mottled from moisture then the paper can be part of the problem. Good luck!

ETB estimated life is around 100,000 pages, so if you're near that mark it wouldn't hurt to change it.
