I want to add a laserjet5 to my Novell Netware 4.11 Network without having to put a computer next to it acting as a print server. So I bought a JetDirect Card # J2552 on the web which I understood to be a compatible interfacing device. But I haven't gotten very far. After putting the card into the printer and turning the power on, the printer displays an error "80 Service (01F0)" and I can get no further. Documentation and guidance for setting these aging things up to work together is scarce out there, but it seems there ought to be a way. Can anyone advise? Thanks !

Could be a bad card but I'm no expert with Novell. Do you get the error when the network cable is not attached to the jetdirect card?

It is definately a problem with the card, either a bad card or a bad connection.

Is there a a simple way to test that the card is definitely bad, or does the error I get already prove that, as you suggest it does? I tried it in another Laserjet5 and got the same error.

The reason I asked if you get the error when the network cable is disconnected is that I have seen cards display strange errors because of bad data being sent to the printer. Removing the cable and powering the printer off and on would eliminate that possibility. I would cold reset the printer with the card in it (this should reset the card to factory defaults). Then try it in both printers, if you still get the error then you are certain it's the card.
