We have a LaserJet 4000 TN with a paper feed problem in tray 2, but not tray 3. If I remove tray 3 to force the printer to use tray 2 and then print a page it whirs for a minute and than indicates a paper jam. When I pull the tray out to clear the jam, the top sheet of paper has been advanced slightly, but not far enough to reach the roller at the front of the tray. Is this a sign that the half rollers that start the paper moving need to be replaced?

In the 4000 printers you can switch tray 2 and tray 3 to see if the problem follows the tray itself or the tray bay, if you switch the two trays and the problem is still in tray 2 then Yes, Replace the 4 D-shaped rollers in Tray 2 and you should be good to go. If the problem stays with the physical tray and the problem is now in tray 3, then replace the feed roller in the tray.
