After swing-plate gear assembly replacement by 3rd party service guy the webadmin capabilities of this printer disappeared. The tech arrived with only a small bag of tools and no notebook - so I know he didn't flash the drive or firmware. He spent the better part of a day working on this - much of it on the phone getting assistance or following the directions I'd printed for him (we'd previously performed this repair ourselves on a twin unit without incident).

The web admin page returned is abbreviated (10.80) - it only includes config info for the Jetdirect card/module (only a Home and Networking tab across the top) instead of the full featured interface (10.81) that has the Tab buttons down the side and the Supplies bar graphs on the front page. So at this point there isn't a way to update the Send directory or perform other maintenance except for the balky LCD control panel keyboard.

Using Jetdirect we checked to be sure latest firmware is loaded (it is) for the embedded 7949E. Have powered off/on the unit, listed the drive directory, and lastest move - Cold Reset the unit. Result is the same.

Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
George

I've run into this with a couple 8150's at one customer, unfortunately I don't know what the fix is. Let us know if you do figure anything out. If it was a setting on the printer itself I would think the cold reset would have fixed it.

Hard disk reinitialization and hard reset didn't work. I was unable to update the firmware. In a last act of desperation I powered down the unit, cracked open the electronics box (in the back behind the sliding plastic) and RESEATED every dang component - hard disk cable (both ends), CPU, RAM, etc. After power up I was able to get to the full Web management facility. And after this was fixed I was able to upgrade the firmware. Case closed - finally!
