I got this off the Internet:
[B]Re: HP DesignJet 500 24 Error Message 81:01.Options
The 81:01 system error is related to a problem with the paper axis movement, nothing to do with the pc board usually.
It is related to 1 of these 3 components:
- Paper Axis motor
- Drive roller encoder sensor
- Drive roller
Another clip from the Internet:
Most probably you have a damaged drive gear or the drive roller is binding, Run the paper advance test in the service mode to check the components in the paper drive system, it will step you through the process until it finds the faulty part and let you know which one failed. Once you arrow to the setup menu, press the enter button, then hold the enter and up arrow to get into to service tests menu. ....p.
My two cents:
---I have cut a section of a manila file folder and used it to check for jams. Push
the upper blue lever down like you were going to load paper and work the folder
up through the pape path, especially on either end, then work back and forth
over the entire paper length.
