My laserjet III shows a "50 Service" on the display. What does it mean and how do I get it back in action? I know it's old (cannot find any documentation at the HP site), but it's been like a Sherman Tank up to now - just don't build them like this any more. Hope to be able to keep it operating! I case it helps, a logo on the machine says "Resolution Enhancement PCL5". Thanks for your help!

It can be the fuser or the low voltage power supply. Either way you have to leave it unplugged for awhile to clear the error.

If the error does not go away then you have a fuser problem. You should be able to get a replacement fuser and it is very easy to replace it.

Well, I left it unplugged for about 4 hrs, and error doesn't go away. Do you know of any site with fuser replacements for sale, or instructions for replacement?

That series has lasted forever but is just too old to still be supported, sorry. Parts are rarely available for that model.
I would suggest a better investment would be to upgrade to something at least a little newer where parts are more available and is still supported. Good workhorse replacements are printers like the LaserJet 5, LaserJet 4000, LaserJet 4100, or LaserJet 4200. http://www.printertechs.com/refurbished-hp-laser-printer.php

That's what I was afraid of. Hate to dump it - it's like an old college text book: No use for it, but cannot let go.
Thanks for your reply!
