Hi,
New here, looks like a great place for info! I have a HP 2420dn which I attempted to upgrade the firmware and it failed during the process. Now it boots up, all three lights stay on and the screen is blank. I've tried pushing the firmware through the parallel port, but no luck.
Anythoughts on a solution?
Cheers

Replace the formatter.

HP has developed a way to push the firmware down through a USB cable. We have tried it here at work and it did bring the printer back. I have been out of the shop all day and the guy that knows about it has already left. Try the HP web site and google.

Thanks Al, I'll search for it and see if it works. I've got nothing to lose! I'd like to avoid replacing the formatter, as I'm sure it's a costly solution (haven't sourced it, but assuming it would be like most things HP).
Thanks!

Al, no luck in finding the info, so if you can point me in the right direction, I would really appreciate it. Hate to shelve the printer, it was a real work horse and only had about 15k on it.

Will get it for you tomorrow morning. Guy that has it has already left for the day, sorry.
So far we have only tried it on HP 3005 and XP for and operating system. It did not work for us on Windows 7.

Thanks Al, I'm pretty well set for any OS including Mac if need be. Appreciate your help on this one.

I did a Google search on "HP Firmware Updates + USB and found several hits. I printed one out and showed it to the guy that has done it and he said that was it. Mostly it is a problem to locate the name of the printer since you cannot get it to POST up to READY so you will have to get it from the PRINTERS & FAX icon when it finds the printer on the USB port. Sorry I cannot be more specific, we are in panic mode here because of all the disaster activity.

Big Al, finally got around to trying your suggestion and sadly it didn't work, so I found a new (used) formatter on eBay and I hope this clears up the problem.
Thanks for you help on this, it's greatly appreciated!

Well, the replacement formatter from ebay showed up and worked like a charm! only $26.00 to boot. Forgot how much I missed that printer, and it had less prints than I thought only 11,400 on it, so was definitely worth the part.
Cheers everyone!
