I have an elderly HP 1220C DeskJet. Recently the yellow stopped printing (just stopped, no gradual streaky failure as usual when nearly empty or clogged). I have tried two replacements (refills) and both have the same fault - ie absolutely no yellow. In each case I have gone through the full HP head cleaning process and if I press the print heads against absorbent material, the red and blue 'spill' out plenty of ink but the yellow is dry. Have I been unfortunate in having three cartridges with the same fault or is there a fault with the printer itself? (If its relevant, the cartridge code is 78). Any help much appreciated.

If no one can help with this, perhaps they could suggest where else I could ask this question.

Have you cleaned the contacts that mate with the cartridge? I usually clean them with a clean pencil eraser, then with OOPS. The OOPS is an alcohol based solvent with some petroleum distilates and a little oil. Find it anywhere paint is sold. The oil lubes the contacts and keeps them from corroding. Try the eraser first.

If this does not help then you may have a broken ribbon cable or an electronic problem. It may be time for a new printer. If you really like this printer there may be one on Ebay or Craig's list.
