Finally got this printer working just right, with thanks to everyone who helped me in prior posts.
Last problem (I hope):
After the printer sets up, the lcd alternates between "Ready" with the toner supply bars, and a VERY ANNOYING message "HP Genuine Supplies Designed For 3600".
I am using the proper genuine HP toner cartridges. Why am I getting that annoying alternating message and how the @#@$! do I get it to stop and just stay at the ready screen???
Thank you.

If you believe that you bought genuine hp cartridges go to this URL:

Thank you.
Can't connect to that link, but are you telling me the alternating message on the lcd is because one or more of the toner cartridges (which all look like genuine HP) is a counterfeit or a compatible refill?
That is why the message refers to a 3600 when I have a 3800, even though it says "genuine HP"?
Even if that is the case, is there still a way to get rid of that message?

I'm sorry, I screwed up the link.

Try it now.
The 3600 and the 3800 use the same toner, I believe.
The service manual states that that error message could be from
a counterfeit cartridge.

The color cartridges for the 3600 are different part #'s than the 3800's (only the black cartridge is the same). That's why you're getting the error message. As far as I know the only way to clear it would be to go into Diagnostics menu, and select "Disable Cartridge Check" which will turn off all error messages related to toner cartridges.
However, if it prints ok, you should be fine.
