I determined my ethernet Jet direct 600N card was bad by pulling a 610N card from a 2200DN printer and trying it, now it seems to work fine. My question is, will any jet direct card work for the 2100TN, or is there some reason to go back with a 600N card for that particular printer? the 610N cards seem to be more plentiful, and I do not understand if any printer specific info for specific models reside on the jet direct card. Thank you for any help.

Any jet direct card from 600 through 620 will work. We have seen all of them here where I work. The higher the number the more speed options. The 600 and 610 work at 10 Mb, the 615 and 620 work at either 10Mb or 100Mb and the 635 can run at gigabit speed. The 600 and 610 are quite reliable. The 615 suffers from ball-grid array solder failures because of the vibration in the printer.

Al, thanks for the clarification, and it sounds like the 620 is the way to go which explains why they are 3 or 4 times the price on ebay.

The HP 2100 is pretty slow so it really does not need more than 10 Mb/sec. A 600 or a 610 should work fine for you.

Ok, that is interesting info-I printed a schematic, oversized when it had to print on 6 pages, and it took maybe 20 minutes to print with a lot of blinking printer light time. I was assuming that was the jet direct card taking lots of time to get the info, but maybe not. No matter how i printed it (at 175% size) large parts of the schematic was lost, just did not print out.

That was probably a lack of memory in the printer.

Ok thanks, I appreciate the info and will proceed. Now that I can see how many pages these units have printed, how many is considered "high mileage" ? I have 36000 copies on the 2100tn, and 72,000 on the 2200dn. thanks!

They should be good out to 110K pages then might need some rollers or a fuser. These are difficult to troubleshoot but are really pretty good printers.
