3rd Party Firmware Cards?

After finding that the firmware cards were removed on both recently acquired color laserjets, I have been searching for the cards.


It seems that they are hard to find for a 3800dtn and a CP4005n. A couple internet sellers have the genuine HP oem cards, but they are hundreds of dollars. A number of other sellers have them as non-oem for much much less.


Does anyone have any experience with 3rd party firmware cards (and who is a good seller?), do they work ok, and is there any chance a 3rd party firmware card can be updated with the genuine HP flash update from the HP website?

I did - the sellers show a picture of a Sandisk CF card and I was expecting to see something with HP's name on it.
When I called a few of those suppliers, they told me the cards were "3rd party" and that made me think they were not genuine HP and thus (1)may have inferior color control and (2) if I found a flash update for the firmware it would not take the flash.
Am I wrong about that and should just order the parts and not worry about the parts not being labeled "HP" ?

Oh, thank you, I will try that tomorrow.
I did a search on your website for both firmware cards, and both came back as not found.

I called, and even though both parts not shown on website both were actually in stock (Yea!!!!!!) and to be shipped today. Reasonable prices, fast shipping, I am sooo happy. Hopefully by middle of next week I will have both printers working.

Is there a way to make an image file (back up) these firmware cards?
If I wanted to flash update the firmware and something goes wrong, I don't want to have to buy these again!
