Hi Everyone,
I have a client with an LJ 8150. They are running large print jobs (over 1000 pages) for their fund drive. The printer begings to jam at the fuser after about twenty minutes of operation. The pages seem excessively hot, as if it is over heating. After a cooling off period, it will print normally for another twenty minutes and the cycle repeats. They are also having an issue with envelopes. The trailing edge of the envelopes are coming out crinkled.
I have tried swapping the envelope feeder and that had no effect. I have also replaced the fuser; madking sure the pressure levers on the fuser were in the UP position for the envelopes and still have the same problems.
Any information will be hgreatly appreciated. Have a great day, everyone!

Any chance something is blocking the printer's air intakes or exausts? Are all the fans running? Is the printer reasonably clean inside?

Al,
The fans are all spinning, no blockages. It is pretty clean and in a relatively cool environment.
Thanks for the input!

Well, the issue have gotten a little muddier. Now the client is getting the error on the control panel 'PAGE TOO COMPLEX' Anyone have any ideas on this one? Thank you everyone for the time!

you have separate issues here, the page too complex probably means you need more memory or try a different driver
the paper being hot is probably not an issue, if the fuser were getting too hot you would get a 50.x error. the thermister keeps fuser temp in check and if that fails then the thermoswitch opens. In either case you would get a 50.x error.
jamming could be from from a combination of toner, paper dust, and dirt building up on the fuser. If you have had a toner spill or excess toner in the printer, it can start to form a hard rosin and is problematic if it starts sticking to the separation fingers on the fuser, which can cause jams.
envelopes are always prone to creasing, your only option there is to use a different brand of envelope. You can try lifting the pressure tabs on the fuser (have a little envelope icon on them for a reason) but this usually causes poor fusing.

Jeff,
I have replaced the fuser and tried lifting the pressure levers but that had no effect on the envelope issue. I am going to try adjusting the DWS settings in the control panel and see if that helps out with the PAGE TOO COMPLEX issue.
Thanks for the ideas though! Keep them coming!

My guess is they are using a non-standard paper type for this print job -- perhaps really cheap paper, recycled paper, etc. With that kind of paper, once or twice in a ream you'll hit a particularly dusty sheet of paper and the rollers will slip trying to move it, delivery will be late, & paper jam will occur. Probably a similar problem with the envelopes.
If I'm understanding right, they can get about 20 minutes of continuous, steady successful printing before a paper jam occurs. Print speed on that model is approx. 32 pages per minute, so that means they are printing a little over 600 pages successfully before triggering a paper jam.
Assuming that 20 minutes/600 pages estimate is true (you can print an event log to see the recent error codes and see if the page counts match up), then the problem is not going to be a mechanical problem or printer problem, it's a paper/environment problem. Jamming issues that are mechanical in nature will not be that infrequent, they'll occur much more quickly & more often.
