New to site, hoping someone can answer a question for me. I brought home a HP Cm1312NFI from work that wasn't working. Interestingly, there are no error messages whatsoever, but when I print, either from one of the reports, a copy, or from a printer, the printed page is completely blank.
I downloaded a service manual, and took the thing completely apart looking for something stuck somewhere. I made sure that the laser shutter opens when you close the front cover. The printer says that there is toner in the cartridges.
Any one have any idea why this thing won't put toner on the page?
Thanks,

Run an engine print test. What happens?

I can't find anything in the service manual, menus, or the HTML pages at the printer's IP address that mention "engine print test", I did try to print the service page and the diagnostics pages. All printed but all were blank.
How do I do the "engine print test"?

I can't find the manual for the 1312.
Look in the INDEX for "Engine-Test"

There isn't anything in the standard service manual labeled as such. What exactly does it do? Maybe there are other tests that do the same thing, or maybe it is labeled differently in this manual. Thanks,

The engine test helps you determine if the formatter board is failing. It is an option "built into" most Laserjet printers, where pressing a small button will bypass the formatter and print a very basic test page.
The problem is that tiny little "engine test button" is not marked as such, and can be located in different spots on the LaserJets. I would usually look on one of the two sides, for a tiny "pinhole" access where you can insert a paperclip or similar to press the button.
Looks like you're not alone with this blank page problem -- I saw several forums reporting the same problem with no real results. Formatters are known to fail on this model so it very well could be a formatter failure, but also could be DC controller failure, high voltage power supply failure, or scanner failure...
I'm not sure that printer is worth repairing for the cost of those parts. You might want to look at a printer that has a more stable reputation ... for small-to-medium office color printing, we generally recommend the LaserJet 4600, 4650, or 4700 series...

Thanks for the help. I guess it's going to the recycler and I'm getting a different one.

might be wise for you to get a proper color copier.
I use a Fuji Xerox Docu Center C400
