Hi

I have a LaserJet 1200 that has worked great for years. Recently, the paper feed has been jamming. Basically, the page being printed doesn't travel far enough along the path before the next piece of paper gets pulled in prematurely.

The pickup roller and the separation pad look fine, although I'm not sure I could tell if the separation pad was worn evenly or whatever.

Does the roller with the cam normally cycle several times, lifting the stack of paper up and lowering it? The following piece of paper seems to get dragged in when the stack is lifted....

Any thoughts would help. Otherwise, it's a great printer and works well!

Sounds like the solenoid is sticking for the paper pickup mechanism ... this would cause the roller to continuously cycle too many times ... it may be more than you want to investigate (you would basically need to remove the printer panels, get down to the paper pickup assembly, and examine that solenoid to see if it's become sticky or magnetized ... cleaning and/or retaping the solenoid generally helps, or else replace the solenoid) If it's something you don't want to deal with yourself, we can do that repair at PrinterTechs (866-352-7108).

@cs_Steve

... or clairvoyant or something. I had looked at the solenoid a couple of times and hadn't noticed the sticky gum on the plate and housing. You were right - the plate wasn't popping back and the roller kept turning. I cleaned both parts, cut a piece of electrical tape to fit the housing, applied a small amount of lube on the plate and ... it works! Yay!!! Thank you!

I had a LaserJet 1300 model after the 1200 that did that as well, I have found for which a stuck solenoid causes the pickup system to have a second or third rotation, when it should be just one, reason for the clutch, I was looking for the solution and I found that the solenoid was misbehaving, the remedy was exactly was cs_steve said.

Solenoids can be tricky to people who dont know how they have their role in the machine, it helps operate a clutch, thats my understanding correct me if I'm wrong, this forum is full of great knowledge.
