Hi Everyone,

I have run into a problem that I have no idea how to address. I am being sent out on a troubleshooting call for a CLJ4730. I have just recently had the title of Printer Technician bestowed upon me so I am still very new at this.

This is the issue I am being sent to address.

"I have an HP4730 that is acting up. It doesn't come out of "warming up" a lot and it will go into "scanning" and never come out. We are having to turn the unit off and on pretty much at least once a day."

Model = Q7518A
S/N = JPDLH01688

I dont have the slightest idea where to start. I have not been able to find a service manual for this thing. Can anyone lend a hand? Any information, suggestions, of ideas are greatly appreciated! Thanks everyone in advance for the time and have a great day!

Before you go, download the firmware for it on a usb drive. HP.com, Drivers, Firmware.
Update it, even if same. It has to be at the ready state to upload. If it can, check it's network IP and open a browser with it. A firmware can be sent to it by selecting the usb drive as location of file.
The NIC firmware can be updated also.
These sometimes have a scanner connection issue. Re-seat the main board for it.

Well after much more research I have determined that the DC controller is the issue. I replaced it (what a bear of a job!) and put everything back together and power it up. The printer powers up and initializes (I think) but I am not sure as the control panel is not dead. Nothing at all, no backlight, nothing. it is almost as if the printer is not on.

I tore it all down again and reseated all the connections of the dc controller. Put it back together again and still not control panel. I reseated the harness at the control panel and traced it back to the dc controller (J1027). The panel and the harness look fine. I was able to print an engine test page which printed fine. I am thinking this is a formatter problem. The little info I have been able to find about this problem seem to say the same thing.

Has anyone run into this issue? Anyone have any input or ideas I would be greatly appreciative as the formatter is $500 refurb! Thanks in advance everyone.

Well, after 4 trips by HP techs with no luck, they finally just replaced the printer! Thank God that long nightmare is over! Thank you for all the help everyone!
