Turn the printer off. Pull all four toner cartridges. The laser beam travels through lucite (clear plastic) light pipes up to the toner cartridge. The beam jumps across a small air gap and into the port on the toner cartridge. These ports often get contaminated with toner powder that escaped. Use a can of compressed gas to blow all the loose toner out of the printer and off the end of the toner cartridge that has the laser beam port (small square of clear plastic). If this does not do it, go into the maintenance menu and disable CARTRIDGE CHECK. This allows you to put the black cartridge in the yellow slot. Of course the colors will be off but you may be able to pick out the defective toner cartridge without buying spares. The Service menu PIN for this printer is 09555004. Please let us know what you find!
