Old HP color laserjet 2605dn was starting to act crazy with cyan cartridges but both computers could use it just fine. Got a used one off ebay and hooked it up, one machine could use it right away just fine (kept same ip address and submask etc.) however the other did not find it. So I uninstalled the printer and software, restarted computer, then went to reinstall using the full software solution from the HP site. (which I had used before and it worked fine). During the process I choose the option to install a network printer from a list of detected devices, the install program finds the printer on the network, I pick it, program proceeds copying some files for a few seconds then gives an error message that it cannot complete the network printer install and stops with a retry/cancel choice. When you choose cancel (since retry does the same thing) it scans the error logs and gives this message:

Error Situation Code: 33218131
The following lines were retrieved from the installation error logs.
Now Launching=X:\hpzdui.exe "rerun" "1" -| XXX -f X:\DIVins??.DAT
LaunchNetworkInstall gets back unexpected value 2
RUN: Driver UI Plug-In exits returning 50
Exit code=50

So I tried uninstalling anti-virus and malware programs, running a registry cleaner, and rerunning the install with the same results.

Any ideas on a solution would be much appreciated. I am thinking I may just have to do a format and clean install of windows, but hoping to save the time.

Thanks in advance.

I would print a config page from the printer's information menu, just to verify the IP address, subnet mask, etc.

Then simply do a simple install (Add a Printer from Control Panel, New TCP/IP port, type in IP address, point to driver file, and finish) rather than using the custom HP utility...

here is our tutorial on installing network printers if that helps: http://www.printertechs.com/tech/tutorials/networking/networking1.php

Thanks much, the tutorial helped solve it for me. I was picking a wrong option close to the beginning. (Kept picking network printer instead of add port, etc)

Take care and safe travels.
