I've got a HP LaserJet 2200 that keep getting spots on the right side of the paper - even with a new toner. I also used a Duster to blow real well but spots (not specific pattern) still there. I suspected foreign objects in the fuser and willing to attempt to clean the fuser. If it is the fuser, where can I get the instruction on fuser assembly/disassembly?

Thanks
Jack

Hi, the fuser is pretty easy to get at in a 2200, you only have to remove two screws behind the rear door and you can access it, but in my experience cleaning a fuser film only temporarily solves this problem, you will need to replace the fuser soon.

Mainly toners cause these problems if you have a new toner cartridge then its your fuserm, or a dirty beam to drum mirror that can also cause the problem too.

It wouldnt hurt to check both toner and fuser, check the fuser with what Brain said which I agree, you dont have to replace the fuser all you might need to replace is the teflon flim in the fuser unit, thats a cheaper alternative to buying a new fuser.

I suggest a full clean of the printer first before the fuser unit, take it apart fully and clean the printer thoughly make sure there is no toner inside of the printer if it still has the same problems then I will look at the fuser unit as being the problem.

Its very rare of fusers to cause this problem, in my expererince is the paper guides and leaking toners to cause this problem as a result the fuser fuses the lose toner that causes the spots, however toner can stick to the flim of the fuser unit and cause the same spots, I think if the spots are ramdom then its not the fuser if it was the fuser it would be a same spot at every page, I think cleaning the printer is the best soultion.

If the spot shows up at least rwo times on the page, go to the Repetitive Defects Ruler for the LJ 2200. Line the first spot up at the top arrow on the page and the second spot will line up with the roller that's creating the problem.

Start printing, open the cover before the paper gets to the fuser.
If the spots are on the paper it isn't the fuser. Could be transfer roller or toner cartridge.
If there are no spots change the fuser.
