We have an HP LaserJet 8000 that emits a high-pitched squeal/squeak when printing from Tray 2 (letter - 500 sheet) only. It doesn't do it from Tray 1 (cassette manual) or Tray 3 (legal - 500 sheet).

I have replaced the parts in the maintenance kit (fusing assembly, transfer roller, pickup and feed roller) as well as the toner.

Any thoughts as to what it could be? I thought about the clutch or one of the gears, but am stumped.

Some times the torque limiter (small round plastic clutch behind the separation roller - usually black for the 8000, but sometimes white) is defective. If that is the case the printer will move more than 1 piece of paper at a time. That can cause the noise you're describing. Or you could just change the entire PIU. Part number is RG5-1852. This is a bit more complicated to replace than a maintenance kit, so I suggest you call a trained technician to do it (plus it's a little heavy).
