Has anyone encountered this error message? Troubleshooting already performed: replaced the duplexer and also checked the path of the paper through the duplex path.

How did you repair it?

I had this problem recently and it turned out the fuser was bad. There is a paper path sensor test you can run. This is from the HP website:

Do a paper path sensor test:

Select the Menu button
Select Diagnostics
Select Paper Path Sensors
Select the menu button to select the paper path sensor test.

If you have a clj 4700 service manual go to pages 511 - 513 to explain what the results mean.

Most likely you have a bad paper path sensor somewhere.

The above data is a normal paper path sensor test result.

If there is a number one under the letter F (for example) when you run the test it means the sensor associated with letter F is likely bad.

Check the "duplexer roller plate". Open the front cover and look at the ETB. On the right side near the magenta toner decal are two rollers. Number 1, make sure that the plate is on your ETB. Number 2, make sure that the top black roller is flush against the ETB. There are two screws that hold the plate against the ETB. Make sure that the top screw is not loose. If this is your problem, reinstall the plate by removing the 2 screws. Reinstall it by 1)screw the top screw tight first. 2)Then tighten the lower screw.
Swap the ETB with another printer to see if the problem moves.

There is a picture in the manual, p. 612 /figure 8-21/ item 3

Thanks for the input. I have changed the ETB as well as the fuser to no avail. When I ran the paper path sensor test, it returned this result.

I'm assuming the fuser pressure release sensor is bad, but I'm not sure. Any additional input would be appreciated.

It turns out that the duplexer was not securely fastened to the printer. After close inspection, I applied a bit more pressure when securing the duplexer. That fixed the problem. Thanks to those who responded.
