We have HP swing plate instructions (http://www.printertechs.com/tech/assemblies/swingplate/swingplate1.php) on our website on the page for our brass replacement gears for the 42x0 main gear.

For just the end gear, that is enough, but the inner gears may be worn as well.
To remove the entire swing plate, remove Formatter, DC Cont. with its cable, P/S and the rails for it.
Three screws in tight spots, and it comes out. The tang goes in firstly, and is actuated by the top covers white lever. Lift it up on install.

If you go to the link, there are also instructions with pictures available for replacing the entire assembly.
