My printer has started to act up from time to time always the same way; up until now it has always eventually decided to play nice again and work for a bit. Except today. It's obstinate.

Here is what happens: I feed pages singly through either the front (single) or back (continuous) feed slot.
It moves the paper in until about the last 2 inches are still showing above the feed slot. At this point it hesitates a bit, then moves it on about another inch. Then it just stops. When I remove the cartridge the sheet isn't torn or mangled and just about 1/4" lightly caught in the lower front of the printer.

Can anyone suggest a reason and cure, please?

BTW. Yes the printer has some age - but not all that much wear. I am still on the original cartridge which has plenty of strength left. I also still have a good part of the only pack of paper I bought.

Any ideas?? TIA!

Check the rubber feed rollers for paper dust. If they are not dusty they may have gotten stiff and hard and can not always grab the paper. Been a long time since I worked on one of these. I use a product called OOPS to clean the rollers and refresh them a bit, available wherever paint is sold.

Thanks for answering Al,

I tried cleaning the one roller that's exposed with a solvent I had already here. A lot of "ink" came off but I didn't find the interior of the printer to be dusty. I rather suspect that the roller(s) may have dried out as you suggest.

I'll probably try to find the Oops that you mentioned and give it another try - if not successful then that's that. New printers are amazingly cheap but I wonder whether they will last even half as long as this one did. Thanks again!
