That error message is related to the formatter board. It can be a temporary error. I would clear out any print jobs that are pending from the computer, reboot your computer, reboot the printer, and then send the job again to see if it was just a temporary error.
If the error recurs, you might need to upgrade your firmware ; that is something you may want to have a technician do depending on how comofrtable you are . If upgrading firmware doesn't help, you would need to replace the formatter.

It doesn't look like a temporary error. the printer has been off since last week. It's not hooked up to any computer or network. I still can't use any of the buttons. What is the formatter?
Thanks

The formatter is the printed circuit board on the right side of the machine. The network cable plugs into the back of the formatter board. The formatter takes the stream of characters from the computer and makes a pattern of tiny dots that will make up the printed image. The control panel plugs into the formatter. If you cannot get an experienced tech to guide you through this you might consider taking it somewhere if you have to fix this one. You can download the manual from the Internet and that should help. Wear a static strap when you work on the electronics.
