My 4L is about 6 years old and has always put out nice clean copies. Recently it has started putting smudges on the right edge of the page about 1/2" vertically and at the widest, just under 1/16" in from the edge. These repeat about 1.5" down the page. Also, on the left side I'm getting light horizontal lines every 1.5". These start about 1/16" in from the edge and are about 1/2" long.
I've cleaned all the places recommended in the manual but it doesn't help. Can anyone suggest the next move?
TIA

It is either the print cartridge or the fuser film. Swap carts first. At 6 yrs old, you may want to replace the fuser as parts other than the film will wear out too.

when was the last time you had your machine cleaned?
I also would suspect a bad fuser. If you get 6 years out of a lj then youve got your money worth for sure.
I would definetly clean the printer. Check the fuser for flaws in the roller, and if you see any defects, you need to replace it.
Good Luck,

I don't know if this problem has be repaired yet, but you can replace the printer for a low cost. I've seen lovely samsung printers running 130 ~ ish shipped. Or you can pick up a used laser from ebay for $50-100 of much higher quality and speed.
