My printer is getting sooooo slow printing PDF documents but otherwise works great. Is there a way to upgrade the processor by replacing the board from a newer faster printer? The printer has got to be over 10 years old and in terms of computers that is ancient.

You can add more memory which may help a little with speed. No, you can't upgrade with a replacement board on that model.

If you have been happy with the 2100 series, I would recommend looking at replacing it with the 2300 series or 2400 series, which are much faster but still very similar printers ....

My printer already has 40mb of memory which I believe is the maximum. It still works great, just slow on PDF files. I was told that it may need a PDF simm and perhaps that will be the ticket.

I assume when you say PDF Simm you mean you're considering adding a PostScript Simm card (there isn't a PDF Simm)...

You can check the memory slots to see what slots are available. If the slots are full you would have to sacrifice one of your memory cards to install the SIMM chip ... Also, you should check to make sure you don't already have it installed (PostScript will show up under "Installed Personalities and Options" when you print out a Configuration page...)

I don't think that will drastically improve the speed though ... if speed is enough of an issue you'll probably need to upgrade. Basically, newer printers have faster processor boards as well as faster mechanical speed, also newer printers have PostScript "built in" rather than having to add it as a separate memory chip.
