I have a client with a LJ4050n with a newly installed maintnace kit and the printer has very light print on the right hand side of the page, it is still visible but very light compared to the other portion of the page. Please advise what it might be.

During the process of putting in the maintenance kit the printer may have been turned over and some toner got into the laser scanner assembly?
There are some plastic correction lenses and when they get contaminated this can happen. A little comressed gas or a gentle wiping will fix this.
The other possibility is the transfer roller got dirty.
Try another toner cartridge? Give the toner cartridge a good shaking?
Let us know what you find!

We have tried 3 cartridges in the printer and get exactly the same results. I will look up were this device you are refering to is and try cleaning it. Thank you for your response Al.

Check the transfer roller (long roller that sits underneath the toner). It is probably not seated properly on one side; both tips of the bar roller need to lock in place .

You have to clean the laser scanner

You have to replace toner cartridges, or fuser assembly have a lot of grease

I have replaced the fuser when I did the maintnace kit, problem still persist's, took apart laser assembly and cleaned all lenses and still same problem. Also borders on paper have a blank spot starting about 1.5 inches down the page and persist's till about 3.25 inches down the page ( on font list printout's) and then another light spot 8.25 inches down the page for about a .5 inches.
Thank you all for your help.

What kind of toner, 3 genuine HP toners or 3 aftermarket toners?
I am guessing it's a bad batch of toners!
On these printers, 99.9% of the time light print is comes from either :
- Toner cartridge
- Transfer roller
- Laser scanner mirror

I have 2 HP toners and 1 office max toner they had open and all produce pretty much the same problem. I am attaching a photo so that you can see the light print and fade outs. Any help would be great. Thank you

The picture you attached looks like a toner defect...and the description sounds like a toner defect.
